Camp Hurontario Outdoor Centre

  • Outdoor Education Centre

For many years, living on the islands of the Georgian Bay, located within the archipelago of the
30,000 islands, Camp Hurontario has prided its history in teaching how to live without impact
on the environment.

Outdoor education involves residential and journey wilderness-based experiences in which
students participate in a variety of adventurous challenges and outdoor activities such as
climbing, canoeing, ropes courses, and group games. This form of education draws upon the
philosophy, theory, and practices of experiential and environmental education.

We encourage all students, under the skilled guidance and supervision of our staff, to build
confidence as they take on challenges within the outdoor environment. Further, our program is
designed to promote the following in each student:

• Improve problem solving and survival skills
• Help students understand their physical capabilities and limitations
• Develop leadership skills
• Create bonds between the students and nature
• Challenge students both physically and mentally
