Sonya Katrycz is a partner at Zarek Taylor Grossman Hanrahan LLP with 13 years of experience in civil defence litigation, focusing on complex general liability matters and dispute resolution. She regularly writes and speaks on business interruption and liability risks affecting the summer camp community, and serves on the EDI subcommittee of the Canadian Defence Lawyers.

Her connection to camp spans two decades, beginning as a camper and evolving through leadership roles as a senior counsellor and outdoor education instructor in Algonquin Park. This long arc of hands-on camp and outdoor education experience gives her a practical understanding of the operational realities and risks camp operators face.

Sonya works with camp owners and directors to navigate complex staff and camper issues, develop and refine codes of conduct and internal policies, facilitate targeted staff discussions on sensitive topics, and strengthen overall risk management practices, while preserving the core experiences that make camp meaningful.
