Camp Maple Leaf
- Camp
Our mission: We give children of Canadian military families and children who share similar unique life challenges a camp to call their own. Camp Maple Leaf supports and celebrates them for who they are and fosters friendships that follow them home.
By coming together at camp these kids gain: a supportive social network that they can relate to throughout the year, the realization that they are not alone in the challenges they face, normalization of their life situations, new coping skills and increased resilience.
For 5 nights and 6 days we offer an unplugged, sleepover camp experience with a whole lot of paint, singing and sparkles. On top of all our traditional water and land sport activities we have so many special programs including, fishing with sticks, Slip-n-Slide Power Showers, Make-Your-Own Carnival, and the ever-spirited Island Games!
We are a charity that makes sure all children can benefit from our programs regardless of their families’ ability to pay the camp fees.
Campers come from across Canada to our 104-acre private island (Jacobs Island) on Pigeon Lake, in the beautiful Kawartha Lakes, Ontario. (About a half hour from Peterborough.)
Each session hosts a different camper group, each with its unique life challenges.
These sessions include:
- Children of Canadian military families (both serving and those who have served)
- Children of Military and First Responder families (Both serving and those who have served) whose parent has an Operational Stress Injury
- Children with limb loss and congenital limb differences
- Children with Tourette Syndrome
- Children who are grieving the death of a parent or sibling.
- Children with facial differences
- Children with Dwarfism
- Children with moderate to severe skin conditions.
- Children with Osteogenesis Imperfecta
