Are you ready to work hard, make lots of new friends, live away from home, and earn some money for school?

G.B. Catering has been operating successfully in recreational camps and outdoor centres since 1969. We provide food services at about fifteen locations across Ontario with most of our camps located in beautiful, picturesque Muskoka and we hire over 100 employees each summer. Our clients include sports camps, canoe tripping camps, camps for children with special needs (diabetic, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, etc.), religious camps, a family camp, as well as traditional children’ s camps. Feeding numbers at each camp range from 70 to 350 people per meal.

G.B.’s recipe for success is based on our unique philosophy of preparing high quality home-cooking and fresh-baked goods, including our trademark homemade breads.

These are summer positions only, starting mid/late June to the end of August/early September. Perfect for people who work in ski resorts, schools, and colleges/universities during the rest of the year…or people who just enjoy the outdoors and new experiences.

Chef Manager

Qualifications

  • You should be a passionate and dynamic cook, but have the leadership ability to lead, train and supervise students, while building a motivating working environment for a team of 5-14 kitchen staff.
  • Administration and inventory control, including measuring quantities and placing food orders, are also part of the Chef Manager’s responsibilities, requiring considerable organizational skills.
  • You are G.B.’s designated representative on camp, and as such is responsible for developing rapport and maintaining good relations to satisfy our clients’ needs.
  • Ideally, the Chef Manager possesses a Red Seal—or a minimum 3-5 years of similar experience is required—and previous large quantity cooking experience.
  • Experience in the restaurant industry, cooking, chef, food preparation, sous chef, large scale dining, catering, fine dining, food truck, authentic cuisine would be considered an asset.
  • Compensation starting at $1200/week including FREE room & board

Sous Chef/Cook

Qualifications

  • This position works alongside the Chef Manager on food preparation and production.
  • S/he assists with staff training and supervision – particularly on the Chef’s day off, when the Sous Chef is responsible for overseeing the entire kitchen operation.
  • Knowledge of homemade soups and sauces.
  • Excellent knife skills, supervisory skills and good work ethic are expected.
  • Enrollment in a culinary program and/or 2-3 years similar experience is required.
  • Large quantity cooking experience preferred.
  • Experience in the restaurant industry, cooking, chef, food preparation, sous chef, large scale dining, catering, fine dining, food truck, authentic cuisine would be considered an asset.
  • Compensation starting at $750/week including FREE room & board

Kitchen Staff – Including Bakers, Salad Bar Cooks, Dining Room Supervisors, Kitchen Helpers, Dishwashers, Potwashers

A good work ethic, the ability to learn quickly, physical strength, and good interpersonal skills are required. Previous food service experience is an asset but not required. Training provided!

Compensation ranging from $500-$670/week depending on position including FREE room & board.
