Area Head General Information
Family Camp Area Head positions are responsible for the upkeep and program delivery for Wanakita Family Camp’s various program areas. Throughout the hiring process we will be selecting individuals who take pride in quality program delivery and are willing to contribute to an inspired and motivated team environment. Area Heads are encouraged to not only be flexible in taking on the operation of some of our recurring/traditionally run programs, but also to develop new and creative programming in their areas.

Program areas are staffed by 1-2 Area Heads that are ultimately responsible for program delivery in their program area. In addition, Area Heads are responsible for equipment maintenance and program area tidiness and cleanliness, as well as possibly providing supervision and support to All-Camp Counsellors and Float Counsellors.

Overseeing the Area Heads is a team of 2 Program Facilitators. They provide support to the Area Heads in the form of program delivery  assistance, as well as feedback and skill development.

WEP (Wilderness & Environmental Pursuits) Area Head

Contract Duration: June 25, 2022 – September 3, 2022
Contract Value: $6,120.00

The Wilderness and Environmental Pursuits Area Head is responsible for teaching WEP skills and programs on topics such as local flora and fauna, wetlands, outdoor cooking and living skills and orienteering. There should be a strong focus on appreciating and learning about the natural world at camp as well as applications elsewhere. This role is responsible for upkeep and organization of tripping equipment, packing and unpacking overnights, and will attend 1 to 3 of the 3 weekly camper overnights.

Requirements:

  • Minimum qualifications: Standard First Aid & CPR C
  • Experiences in environmental studies at Post-Secondary Education level, naturalist pursuits or relevant skills are considered assets
      • Swimming qualifications of Bronze Cross, or better, NLS are considered an asset
