Unit Head (Ages 7 – 13)

Since 1962, and situated in the heart of the city, we have created unforgettable Summer memories for thousands of boys and girls, as one of Toronto’s longest-running, most comprehensive camps. Bayview Glen Camp offers programs for children between the ages of 4 – 14. This Summer will be our 60th Birthday! We offer enriched and balanced programs for our youngest campers, to activity electives for our oldest campers as they grow, and their tastes broaden. Bayview Glen is currently looking to hire a Unit Head for the start of Summer 2022 to be a part of our Head Staff/Camp Leadership Team. This position reports directly to the Camp Director and is responsible for the direct supervision of campers ages 7-13 and their staff members.

Dates of Employment

Start Date: July 4th, 2022 (not including pre-camp office hours)

End Date: August 19th, 2022

Location: 85 Moatfield Dr, Toronto, ON M3B, Canada


Responsibilities and Duties

-Available to attend office hours and Head Staff weekend in the month of May until beginning of Camp in July.

-Organize cabin groups based on camper selections.

-Organize staff groups based on staff knowledge and comfort level of each specialty camp.

-Responsible for direct supervision of staff group within the unity.

-Manage specific camper behaviours that require additional attention and inform camp directors about them.

-Monitor entire unit during lunch times.

-Ensure all activities are providing campers with an immersive and fun experience.

-Communicate with camp staff, and families regarding specific camper behaviours.

-Communicate with parents in relation to specific difficult camper behaviours and log these conversations through our online software.

-Communicate with staff members when they are not meeting expectation as outlined during pre-camp training.

-Organize pre-camp training sessions/workshops for staff group.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Must have completed 2nd Year of University
  • Standard First Aid Training and CPR- C or higher required (certified on or after September 2020).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with children and adolescents an asset.
  • As a condition of employment, a current Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check and First Aid certification will be required.
