Travelling Summer Nurse: Camp Quality Canada
Start Date: May 29, 2023
End Date: September 1, 2023
Rate: $ 24/hr (40 hours/week)
Seasonal full-time position
Location: Based in Toronto, ON. With travel across Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta.
Work schedule may include weekdays and weekends/holidays as needed to support camp programs, events and other camp activities.
Nature & Scope
Camp Quality Canada supports children and families affected by cancer through camp programs. The Travelling Charge Nurse will be involved in supporting our summer overnight camp programs. This role involves remote and in-person work. The position directly reports to the National Medical Coordinator. Room, board and travel expenses are covered during travel to camp.
Qualifications
- Current Registration with College of Nurses of Ontario (Camp Quality will support the successful candidate with obtaining temporary licenses for other provinces).
- Current CPR (HCP) Level C + Standard First Aid
- Experience with pediatric oncology considered an asset
- Valid Driver’s License considered an asset.
- Minimum two years experience working in youth programming or camp setting
- Energy, enthusiasm and flexibility
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Ability to manage multiple work tasks
- Administrative and organizational skills
- Role model for children and youth
- A clear and current criminal record check – vulnerable sector screening issued for Camp Quality Canada. (CRC-VSS)
Responsibilities
Remote Office (June 1 – June 30, 2023)
- Support with general Health Care Orientation and Training
- Support with Camper & Volunteer Database administration.
- Support with Pre-Camp Communications to families and volunteers.
- Support camps with medical supply inventory and purchasing.
Summer Camp (July 1 – September 1, 2023):
- Work collaboratively with the regional camp medical team.
- Support with preparing labels, medical reports, communications, and intake process at camp.
- Support on-site volunteer training for medical teams
- Medication Administration – support on-site medical team to prepare, distribute and record camper medications.
- Regularly administer first aid and respond to any concerns quickly.
- Oversee and lead the medical team in the case of an emergency on-site.
- Ensure that the on-site health centre is kept organized and tidy. Support with camper laundry.
- Encourage healthy habits at camp. Including but not limited to sun safety, personal care and hydration.
- Maintain and promote a high level of confidentiality in conversations and documentation.
- Provide high quality care that meets the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario/ Manitoba/Alberta, Camp Quality Canada, the Camping Associations in each province and the Children’s Oncology Camping Association.
- Understand, participate in and adhere to the Camp Quality Canada policies, procedures and training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
