Camp Pathfinder is a boys’ summer camp with a tradition almost as old as Algonquin Park itself. Since 1914, Pathfinder swimming and canoe tripping have been storied programs of the camp.
As an instructor and lifeguard with the Pathfinder waterfront staff, you will provide professional care and swimming instruction /water safety and adventure education to children and staff. You will work at the Pathfinder waterfront, a wonderful facility in the wooded setting of Pathfinder Island. You will work closely with the program director, senior camp staff and the camp director, to help each camper experience the thrill of achievement and gain lifelong abilities in aquatics safety, physical literacy and fitness.
Here’s what you’ll get to do:
Manage a safe, effective and welcoming swim waterfront facility & program.
Work as an active lifeguard at daily waterfront sessions.
Teach swim lessons and water skills, promoting lifelong safe water abilities.
Assist in instruction and in-service training of Pathfinder counselor staff.
Supervise swim achievement-award work by campers.
Assume a leadership role to influence healthy behaviors in the camp setting.
Help to supervise a camper age group living area.
Swim, paddle, hike, trip, stargaze and play in Algonquin Park every day.
Become part of a great community and camp family spanning the world.
Participate in wilderness medicine and first response education programs.
Take an Algonquin Park canoe trip.
Reside with campers and staff on Pathfinder Island.
Here’s what you’ll need:
NLS certification or higher. Pathfinder will help you obtain or recertify this qualification.
For a waterfront director position, a WSI certification is required. We can help obtain this.
An appetite for the outdoors, and a passion for caring for young people.
An ability to act collaboratively with fellow staff on Pathfinder Island.
A strong sense of responsibility, collaboration, professionalism, and fun.

Residential:
Dates: June 24 – Aug. 20, 2023. Option for Spring and Fall outdoor education staff dates.
A position can be available for half the season. Training and re-certification is available.
Salary:
A Pathfinder senior staff salary is set per age, qualification and experience. Includes room and board, and regular days off. Recertification or additional certification is also paid for upon request.
