Red Pine Camp is an intergenerational family overnight camp with campers ranging in age from babies to over 90-year-olds. Families come for one-week sessions, Saturday to Saturday or the Canada or Labour Day weekend. The camp runs from Canada Day weekend until the end of Labour Day weekend with a one-week break at the end of August. There is a summer staff of approximately 75 people, 55 of whom are 16 and 17 years old.
Red Pine Camp is looking for a positive-natured, hard-working, enthusiastic nurse who is committed to the safety and well-being of others. The nurse will provide basic first aid for our campers and all-around care for our staff during the summer months (Mid-June to end-August and the September Labour Day weekend). The Summer Camp Nurse will hold regular clinic hours each day for campers (2 hours total) and will lead or manage any critical events that may occur during the season.
To be the Camp Nurse, applicants should feel comfortable providing first aid care for all ages of campers, participate in staff and camp life, oversee the administration of medications to staff and organize paperwork and maintain file organization. All applicants must have a proven track record as a team player, be energetic, professional and be interested in being a role model/mentor. The Summer Camp Nurse will support our summer camp Coordinator (Camp Director) team.
Applicants should have some background in working with teenagers (specifically 16-19), as a large part of this role is to be responsible for the physical and mental health and wellness of our staff. The applicant must be comfortable educating and working with teens on issues including, but not limited to, mental, sexual and general health.
With respect to Covid-19 should there still be issues in 2022, Red Pine Camp is generating procedures that will minimize infectious disease and Covid-19 exposure to the camp nurse and staff. Further Position Requirements:
• Be in good standing with the College of Nurses
• Be able to practice in Ontario (RN/RPN)
• Provide own insurance coverage
• Provide a current Police Check with a clean record
• Ability to organize health forms and paperwork per regulations
• Conduct inventory of First Aid station and make supply recommendations
• Check and refill first-aid kits around camp
• Able to walk some distances as our camp spans many acres
• Communicate clearly and interact positively with all ages of people
• Be comfortable providing guidance to programs, staff, and campers, to follow Covid-19 safety protocols
• Ability to make decisions and take initiative
• Have some experience working with teen mental health
• Camp experience a plus but not required

Compensation varies depending on experience (between $500-$600 per week). The position includes great meals (including salad bar), a private ‘rustic’ three-room living area with a kitchenette, washroom, laundry, use of facilities, and there is accommodation for family members (with a small per diem to cover food). The workday is not full – there is time to enjoy the camp facility with your family/children as well as do the job, especially once oriented to the position, and children are welcome to participate in all camp programming. There may be an option of working 3.5 days a week full summer; sharing the job with another).
