SUMMER CAMP DIRECTOR

RKY Camp

Kingston/Parham, Ontario

Hours: Flexible work schedule required; specifically, evenings and weekends,

Salary: $49,000 (incl. group benefits)

Start Date:  February 2023

Reports to:  Executive Director, RKY Camp

RKY Camp is a charitable organization founded by the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and the YMCA of Kingston (YMCA of Eastern Ontario).  It is located 45 minutes north of Kingston, in Parham Ontario.  RKY’s Year-Round administrative office is located at the YMCA of Kingston.

Our Mission:

We strive to provide value-based summer camping and outdoor education programs to participants from all backgrounds; encouraging them to challenge themselves, practice teamwork, and grow in mind, body and spirit.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the Summer Camp program operations of RKY Camp

Oversees the planning and delivery of Summer Camp programming

Responsible for recruiting and hiring of Summer Camp staff team

Delegates training and supervisory responsibilities to qualified staff as necessary

Responsible for ensuring that all areas comply with Ministry, municipal and association guidelines, regulations and safety requirements

Responsible for assigning and assessing performance management contracts for all direct reports

Assists in budgeting, quality assurance, YMCA camping quality recommended practices, hiring, and training

Serves as a member of the YMCA Ontario Overnight Camping Workgroup

Submits payroll, employment forms and other relevant paperwork in a timely fashion

Other duties as determined by the Executive Director, RKY Camp

Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree or diploma

Experience in overnight camping, preferably at the senior leadership level

CPR and First Aid certification

Class F driver’s license preferred

Level 2 Challenge Course Certification (Acquire within first year of employment)

Small Drinking Water System Operator (Acquire within first year of employment)

NLS preferred

Food Safety Certificate

WHMIS training

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Clear Criminal Reference Check , including Vulnerable Persons Sector Screening

It is mandatory that the successful applicant lives on site for the Summer Months.

In the non-summer months, the Summer Camp Director is expected to work in our

Kingston office regularly and act as on site designate for some programs during our Year Round Outdoor Centre season.
