CNIB Lake Joe is a fully accessible lakefront facility located in Muskoka, Ontario providing a unique blend of recreation, skills training, social interaction and personal discovery in a safe, inclusive environment. Two hours north of Toronto, Lake Joe stretches over 12.5 acres of waterfront property on the northwest corner of beautiful Lake Joseph. Staff and volunteers provide a wide range of high-quality programs to people of all ages who are living with sight loss.

Job Description:

The Senior Counsellor, Leadership & Special Programs will work closely with the Leadership and Special Programs, Program Area Head to develop and deliver leadership skill development for our leadership camp participants and innovative and engaging experiences to guests of all ages. As the Senior Counsellor, they will model behaviour expected of other counsellors and junior staff while demonstrating strong leadership skills. With safety as a priority, the Senior Counsellor will help guests to try new and exciting activities at camp.

  • Energetically and inclusively facilitate leadership programs (i.e., Counsellor-in-Training, Canadian Leadership Development Program).
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of special programs (i.e., group games, pop-up programs, evening programs, welcome activities, family experiences, etc.)
  • Inventory, inspect and maintain all program equipment prior to and after use
  • Provide guidance to counsellor and junior staff in the delivery of programming
  • Provide assistance to guests to ensure their safety at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills including patience and communication
  • Experience in camp or other recreation programs
  • Experience and knowledge of teambuilding, initiative tasks and leadership skill programming
  • Willingness to be cross-discipline trained on facilitating active living/adventure programs
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a changing and busy environment
  • Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with another staff member
