RECREATION MANAGER

The Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club is currently recruiting for a Full-Time Recreation Manager, who is outgoing, creative, and innovative regarding program development and event planning. The Recreation Manager is responsible for creating a vision at the Cricket Club to guide the development of unique programs and special events throughout the year for children, youth, families, and adults. Developing and facilitating children’s camps and special events will require collaboration with various sports (Activities), internal departments (facilities, communications, finance), and outside vendors.

 Overview of Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Camp Cricket

  • Coordinate and run Camp Cricket – Summer Camp, Winter Break Camp, and March Break Camps
  • Recruit, hire and provide high quality training for Camp Staff to ensure they provide a safe, educational, and caring environment for children
  • Responsible for ensuring that all camps are delivered in a safe and effective manner by understanding and complying with Ontario Camps Association (OCA) Requirements
  • Ensure a high level of staff morale by providing training, mentorship, and support to all counsellors to ensure the Club’s goals and objectives are met
  • Facilitates mid-summer and post-summer counsellor evaluations
  • Play an active role in parent communication and address parent concerns in a timely manner; conduct weekly surveys to gauge satisfaction with programs
  • Be innovative and actively refer to market research to identify trends in child and youth programming
  • Create and adhere to an annual budget; order supplies; pay invoices and payroll

Family Programming and Event Planning

  • Develop, implement, and execute new program initiatives by developing in-house events to meet the needs and interests of the Cricket Club’s junior members and families. Examples include Spring Family Fun Nights, Halloween Pumpkin Carving, Summer Pool Parties, Parent-Tot programs, art classes, etc.
  • Manage contractors/instructors and recruit participants for seasonal programs and special events, including outdoor winter skating (recreation and shinny programs) and indoor summer basketball (pick-up, leagues, lessons, and camps)
  • Manage contractors/instructors and recruit participants for child and adult art classes in the Art Zone
  • Attend Club Life Committee meetings and assist with organization of Club Life special events for adults. Examples may include Wine Club, Book Club, art classes, etc.
  • Go above and beyond to demonstrate awareness and understanding of the Club’s aim to deliver exceptional service and programs to members
  • Anticipate, react, and introduce new programs to meet member needs by keeping up with child, youth and family programming trends
  • Measure program success in a sessional basis; listen to member feedback on program recommendations and implement new innovating programming based on identified needs; reinventing annual events to keep things “fresh and innovative”
  • Responsible for written submissions for Camp Brochures and Activities Booklet
  • Ensure program registration information is prepared and submitted in a timely manner, adhering to deadlines
  • Liaise with the Communication and Marketing Departments to market and promote programs
  • Coordinate with various departments including Food & Beverage, Activities, Facilities, Marketing and Communications to facilitate and promote camps and special events
  • Create and adhere to an annual budget; order supplies; pay invoices and payroll

Job Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education or related field is required or a combination of training and experience
  • Minimum 5 years developing and implementing child and youth programs is required
  • High Five Certification is an asset, but not required
  • Previous experience as a Camp Leader/ Manager at a children’s summer camp is an asset
  • Strong leadership skills; responsible and organized with the ability to multi-task
  • Experience working in the Private Club industry an asset, but not required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and coordinate campers
  • Proven ability to work under minimal supervision as well as within a team environment
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with parents, children, and direct reports
  • Requires working proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Northstar (Club’s reservation system)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Current CPR/First Aid certifications recommended
  • Budget creation
