A Day in the Life…

Reporting to the Manager, Youth Programs the Program Manager is accountable for all aspects of their primary program(s). This includes curriculum development, program design, implementation, marketing sales, staffing, finance administration, risk management and secondary responsibilities on other programs. Programs include ropes challenge course, youth enrichment and camp programs, residential school trips day school trips, finance and marketing and STEM subject area and educational technology products.

 

As the Program Manager, you will:

  • Design, implement and evaluate youth development curriculum in accordance with Ontario Elementary and High School Curriculum, community development needs, standard youth development expectations, and Youth University’s areas of focus as determined by the Brock University SMA;
  • Design, implement and evaluate work-integrated Learning and career preparedness curriculum for program student staff;
  • Adapt curriculum for different learning goals, health accommodations and for accessibility;
  • Order and maintain specialized equipment and supplies; maintain equipment inspection logs;
  • Address the needs and concerns of parents, teachers, & school boards on an ongoing basis;
  • Conduct safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and the ropes course; make family health judgment calls;
  • Contribute to and maintain emergency action plans, safety plans, safety policies, and program documentation;
  • Create brochures and other marketing content;
  • Oversee website and social media presence for program content and documentation;
  • Build relationships with potential participants, school boards, and other key decision makers to extend reach of program;
  • Lead hiring campaigns, interview, evaluate, and manage contract staff, co-op and intern placements, and volunteers;
  • Develop and administer an annual budget for programs; maintain spending tracking sheets;
  • Create billing, invoices, track receipt of payments, make transfers.

 

What you need to Succeed…

  • An undergraduate degree and Teaching Certificate;
  • First aid and CPR certification;
  • Primary on the ropes course requires a Manager level certification; secondary requires a level 2 certification;
  • A minimum of four years of general management experience, education, community development, safety management (particularly for youth), and teaching experience;
  • Knowledge of curriculum theory and design as it pertains to youth, service learning and community development;
  • Knowledge of social and emotional learning and transferable skills development;
  • Extensive safety management experience to foresee problems before they occur in a high-risk atmosphere, and the ability to effectively manage emergencies;
  • Proven project management, financial/budget development, administration and marketing and sales skills;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, team building, and communications (oral and written) skills;
  • Strong mentorship skills to develop transferable leadership skills in student staff;
  • Ability to understand the program, institutional, and community impact of decisions.

 

Preferred or Asset Skills…

  • Master’s degree preferred;
  • Training in challenge course management and professional ropes course certification;
  • Training in the educational use of technology;
  • Training in marketing and sales;
  • Training in alternative learning environments;
  • Training in student development;
  • Advanced understanding of STEM subject areas.

 

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade (L), Salary Scale ($62,580-$107,280)*;
  • Target hiring range: $62,580-$72,000.
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

 

*The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
