Pioneer Section Director

Job Summary

The Pioneer Section Director is responsible for providing an exceptional camp experience for campers aged 8 to 10 while ensuring a safe and fun environment. As a facilitator of the camper experience, the Pioneer Section Director strives to raise self-esteem.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Including but not limited to,

Oversee the day to day activities of campers in your section
Support counselors managing behaviours and activities
Coordinate and run all section activities
Participate and organize all camp activities
Communicate clearly with all staff members
Provide ongoing feedback and support for counselors
Work closely with the camp director and program director to ensure program delivery is safe and efficient
Establish harmonious and therapeutic relationships with campers and staff alike
Divide campers into cabins based on age, gender and personality type
Work with Junior Staff Director to match counselors with Junior Staff
Mentor counselors as well as Junior Staff to instill positive strategies for working with children and youth
Manage the program chart and present a cabin with the Program Chart Award at the end of the session
Create a detailed list of supplies, to be given to the Assistant Camp Director, with dual notice. Supplies such as Smarties for Chocolate Treasure Hunt, or eggs for Paint, Bury and Egg your Counselor
Designate a best camper, to be awarded at the end of the session
Designate a best cabin, to be awarded at the end of the session
Preform Counselor evaluations at the end of the summer
Ensure sweeps are preformed smoothly and efficiently
Support Program Staff at all Camp Programs
Help in the cleaning of the bathrooms, as according to the schedule given out at the beginning of the summer
Assist in the mentorship of the Junior Staff and the Counselors so they may grow within the work environment
Sit with a cabin table as often as possible, at least ten meals a session

Be of excellent character, modeling honesty, integrity and respect
Possess enthusiasm, energy, patience and sense of humour
Experience and/or desire to work with children in dynamic outdoor setting
Skilled at dealing with all children, including those who are challenging
Ability to relate well to peers, to be a team player, to give/receive feedback
Confidence in leading activities and groups
Participate in evaluation and clean up at the end of camp
Emergency First aid and CPR
