Job Description:
The Camp Health Care Assistant is responsible for tracking and recording all incidents related to camper health and safety during camp sessions, including but not limited to:
- Providing First Aid to ill or injured campers
- Ensuring incident reports are filled out for any camper injury or illness
- Assessing all camp programs for health and safety risk and proposing possible risk mitigation strategies
- Connecting with parents about camper injuries or illness when they occur (major incidents)
- Assisting Camp Coordinator in reviewing and presenting all health and safety related information during camp training
- Support camp programming, which could include set-up and materials prep, assisting in the facilitation of activities, and supervising campers during lunch break
Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
- Post-Secondary Education related to Health care is mandatory
- Mental Health First Aid considered an asset
- Have an enthusiasm for the Natural world and be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods of time
- Be enthusiastic/interested in working with children ages 5-12; previous (camp) experience an asset
- Be able to think on their feet; improvise, plan, and handle both planned and unplanned events and reactions; enter into positive interactions and use positive approaches to situations/campers
- Be able to take direction and efficiently, effectively complete duties, responsibilities and additional assigned tasks
- Able to calmly, professionally, and empathetically conduct oneself in difficult situations with campers, parents, and/or coworkers
- Be comfortable around water
- Have a clear police record check
- Have a current certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C before the start of camp
- Must be Canada Summer Jobs-eligible students (age 16 – 30 at time of hiring) or Humber College/University of Guelph-Humber Work-Study Eligible
- Be fully available for June training sessions (June 29-July 6)
- Be able to commit to 40 hrs/week, Monday-Friday during the months of July and August
