Music Skills Counsellor
Contract Dates: June 12 – September 1, 2023
Location: Camp Huronda, Huntsville, ON
About the Role:
The Music Skills Counsellor is responsible for facilitating a creative and engaging music program. The Music Skills Counsellor is responsible for ensuring all area facilities and equipment are properly maintained and in safe working order and that the Music program is meeting the Diabetes Canada National Camping Guidelines and Ontario Camps Association standards. The Music counsellor will lay the foundation of music education and facilitate a variety of music and performance-based lessons including string, wind, and/or percussion instruments based on participant interest and ability. The Music Skills Counsellor will assist with the overall planning and execution of performance-based programs, such as Camp Show and Camp Chronicles, with the assistance of the program team. All skill counsellors will be providing additional in-cabin support to our counselling team as they will be living in camper cabins (where appropriate and possible). Skill counsellors will also be involved in participating and providing leadership to evening programs alongside the program team.

Responsibilities:
Program Area:
- Provide the required skills and expertise to operate a safe and effective music skills program.
- Set up, maintain, clean, inventory and organize the music skills area.
- Liase with the Land Area Head about supply needs and upkeep, program support, and lesson plan development and facilitation.
- Ensure safety of campers and staff while at the music program area.
- Ensure Staff have an understanding of their responsibilities while at the music program area.
Teamwork:
- Attend all staff training
- Actively and enthusiastically assist in leading all camp programs.
- Maintain a positive, professional and constructive relationship with all staff members.
- Report problems, situations and difficulties to the Land Area Head or Assistant Camp Coordinator.
- Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned by the Assistant Camp Coordinator, Program Head or Camp Coordinator.
- Report all accidents and incidents immediately to the Land Area Head or Assistant Camp Coordinator and cooperate in the completion of required follow-up.
About You:
- Experience instructing youth in music education and a variety of musical instruments
- Student working towards degree in music preferred
- Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory of Canada certifications an asset
- Same or similar work experience at another camp is an asset
- 2+ years’ experience in a camp counselling role.
- Require a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification
