Maintenance Team Member

Camp Winston summer team opportunities give young professionals valuable skill-building experience, practical training and a network of colleagues and friends that cannot be easily captured in traditional placement opportunities. Our amazing frontline team is focused on fun, active and meaningful support of children and teens with complex neurobiology. You will join a group of 70 staff as we embark on a bright and diverse adventure to help 140 children. We are dedicated to the growth and maturity of our staff and are committed to the mental health and well-being of all who join Camp Winston.  


Job Description: 

This is a seasonal job starting in mid June until the end of August. We are looking for hard working individuals who enjoy being physically active and have an understanding of how to work in a team environment. You will report to the Site Manager for direction of daily duties which will include supporting the maintenance team, housekeeping staff and kitchen staff. You will be an important part of delivering a wonderful camp experience to all campers and staff. This job will be 5 days of the week including weekend shifts working approximately 35 hours per week.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to operate small machinery and perform the following tasks (eg. Mow the law, trim weeds, power wash property, blow leaves, debris, water plants etc.)
  • Daily Large Animal care (feed, walk, water replenishment)
  • Assisting with gardens and small animal care(feeding,water,cleaning cages)
  • Minor mechanical repair
  • Maintaining the laundry room and assist care providers/housekeeping with emergency laundry for campers
  • Stock bathrooms on-site with supplies as needed
  • Daily removal and collection of garbages and recycling 
  • Ability to lift materials approximately 50 – 75 lbs
  • Painting and small carpentry skills 
  • Sweeping and mopping duties as assigned 
  • Assist in the moving of furniture, boats, canoes and other items around camp
  • Other duties as assigned by Head of Site


Camp Winston reserves the right to re-assign the duties of an employee at any time to ensure the safety of our campers, teens and staff. Job may include “other duties as assigned.”

Provided Training Opportunities:

  • Orientation of the organization
  • Hands on Training as needed


Qualifications & Experience: 

  • You enjoy being outdoors, like to laugh and understand fun and silliness are fundamentals of a Summer Camp
  • Willingness to abide with Public Health recommendations and standards
  • Proof of current vaccinations, including COVID-19 
  • Satisfactory police record and vulnerable sector check
  • Strong communication skills
  • Collaborative relationship-builder


Qualifications and Experience Considered an Asset:

  • Any trainings related to safety and first aid
  • Previous experience in landscaping and construction
  • Drivers licence and vehicle required
  • Any experience related to youth and social services


Location, Hours, Work Environment & Compensation:

  • Camp Winston (1147 Riverlane Pvt. Kilworthy, ON) from June – August 2023
  • Summer Contract Salary- $15.50 -$ 17 per hour 
  • Weekends Starting in June. Full time starting June 19th – August 31st 2023
