Lifeguards

Position: Lifeguard
Hiring for the upcoming season: 2 positions

Pre-Camp Season:

    • Inspect all waterfront conditions
    • Prepare waterfront for season
    • Ensure all safety and rescue equipment is in good repair and secure at the waterfront
    • Prepare an inventory of equipment and list of repairs and replacements necessагу
    • Become familiar with the system for swimmer and canoe identification
    • Ensure first-aid kit is complete and present at waterfront
    • Attend and participate in pre-camp activities (tag day, set up weekend, orientation)

During Camp Season:

    • Responsible for safety at the Waterfront
    • Inspect Waterfront and campfire areas daily
    • Submit daily report to the Camp Director
    • Maintain order to the waterfront supply shed and lifejacket shed and inspect first aid kit daily
    • On the first day of camp, evaluate all swimmers’ abilities and designate areas according to swimmer ability
    • Adhere to all lifesaving requirements and Ontario Camping Association standards
    • Implement waterfront emergency procedures including water search patterns
    • Daily inspection of water crafts
    • Encourage all campers to participate in planned activities
    • Disposal and management of all recycling for entire campgrounds (after meals)

End of Season:

    • Submit end of season written report on waterfront activities
    • Submit end of season inventory of safety and waterfront equipment
    • Make recommendations for future summer waterfront programs
    • Attend and participate in end of season activities (clean up week – final week of summer)

Daily:

    • Coordinate and participate in daily schedule of activities and chores
    • Assume responsibility for the safety of campers and report all injuries to the Camp Director
    • Participate in nightly campfire program
    • Ensure waterfront and campfire area is safe, clean and tidy
    • Work to ensure that all campers are included, safe and comfortable
    • Attend counsellor and staff meeting nightly
    • Bring forth concerns to Camp Director
    • Report to the Director any counsellors who are absent or inactive during sessions
    • Participate in all other camp activities

General Duties:

    • Take part in evening curfew patrols with other scheduled staff
    • Enforce camp rules and expectations
    • Serve as a positive role model for campers
    • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

    • Current Bronze Cross or NLS Life Saving Certification
    • Basic First Aid and CPR
    • Pleasure Craft Operators Card
    • Canoeing Certification ORCKA (encouraged)
    • Experience working with children
    • Camp and Lifeguard Experience
    • Strong communication skills
    • Team player
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Demonstrated organizational skills

Expectations:

  • Participate in pre camp work sessions
  • Participate in camp orientation program
  • Participate in  weekly camp sessions  (Monday-Friday)
