Kitchen Team

Food Services Team 

The Food Services Team is responsible for meal planning, preparation and clean up for up to 350 campers and staff each day!  Together they operate two dining halls, to provide three meals a day to everyone staying on-site.  The food services team is diligent in working with campers and families who have allergies and dietary restrictions, making sure that all campers have delicious and nutritious food throughout their stay at camp.  Food Service Team members have a love for food, working closely with others and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. 

 

Team Lead  

The Team Lead assist in the planning of all meals, ordering all food products, managing the Kitchen Staff and contributing to the Pine Crest Health and Safety Team. They will work in either our main dining hall (Kekindewin) or our smaller dining hall (Winter Lodge), depending on the season. They will also be responsible for running the kitchen, and supervising the prep cooks baker, dietary cook and dishwashers. The Team Leads must ensure that all meals and kitchen procedures are in accordance with the standards of the YMCA, the Ontario Camping Association and the Ministry of Health. This position is in place to directly support and off-set the schedule of the Food Service Director and will oversee the high quality required to run both dining halls on site. They will also ensure the safety of all clients in regards to dietary needs and allergies. The Team Lead is supported and supervised by the Food Services Director.

 

Prep Cooks 

Prep Cooks play an important role in planning, preparing and presenting meals for the entire camp. Placements for prep cooks will change between the large dining hall (Kekindewin) and the smaller dining hall (Winter Lodge) throughout the summer.  Prep cooks will work a specific station each day. Stations consist of Baking, Dietary Prep, Salad bar, Serving etc. They are also responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen in accordance with the Ministry of Health.  All kitchen staff are supported and supervised by the Head Cooks and Food Services Directors.

 

Baker

The Baker will work on alongside the prep cooks to help with the preparation of baked items for each meal. All baked goods and snacks will be baked by this person. They will also need to help with meal service and are responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen in accordance with the Ministry of Health. All kitchen staff are supported and supervised by the Head Cooks and Food Service Directors.

 

 

Dietary Cook

The Dietary Cook is responsible for the preparation of all dietary meals throughout the summer. They will be responsible for knowing and understanding the dietary restrictions of our camp community including both staff and campers. They will plan and prepare meals that meet the needs of any dietary restrictions at camp and assist with managing dietary restrictions on trip when staff are packing out trips. They will also need to help with meal service and are responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen in accordance with the Ministry of Health. All kitchen staff are supported and supervised by the Head Cooks and Food Service Directors.

 

 

Dishwasher

Dishwashers will be primarily in charge of ensuring that the kitchen is clear or dishes and that the dish pit is maintaining a high level of sanitation. Dishwashers will be in charge of ensuring that all dishes get cleaned after meals and that the dish washing area is clean and sanitized at the end of the day. They are responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen in accordance with the Ministry of Health. All kitchen staff are supported and supervised by the Team Lead and Food Service Directors.

Part time Kitchen Staff

Part-time kitchen staff will hold all responsibilities of a prep cook. They will typically work 24 to 30 hours a week. They will assist with busy periods in the kitchen such as special events, beginning and end of sessions. Part-time kitchen staff will live off-site. Part-time kitchen staff will have the opportunity to work year-round. Team Lead and Food Service Directors
