Kitchen Assistants (up to 4)

At Big Canoe we follow the Faithful Footsteps, Screening Procedures for all staff (paid & volunteer) positions.  

 

Responsible to the Head Cook 

Job Duties

  • To do what needs to be done
  • Under the supervision of the head/assistant cook and the dining room supervisor use check off sheets to ensure that kitchen/dining room routines are followed
  • Are expected to work closely with the cooks to ensure that the meals are ready for serving
  • Ensure that serving utensils are on serving plates when they go to the tables
  • Mix juice, serve juice, milk and water according to the schedule 
  • Refill salt & pepper, condiments, paper napkin holder daily
  • Learn and follow meal schedule
  • Have minor responsibilities in food preparation as assigned by the head cook
  • Cut, peel and wash vegetables as needed
  • Has taken a food handler certification course
  • Help unload supply truck and put supplies away
  • Wash dishes, glasses, silverware, prep, serving dishes and pots by hand or machine
  • Sweep and mop kitchen and dining room
  • Take out garbage from kitchen and dining room to dumpster
  • Clean spillage in kitchen and dining room immediately
  • Ensure that dishwashing area is kept clean, straighten counter and clean after each meal
  • Help in any area of the kitchen or dining room as requested by the head/assistant cook, dining room supervisor or camp director
  • Maintains the routine set by the head cook to keep the kitchen and dining hall swept clean, damp mopped and up to the health standards set by the board of directors and the health inspector
  • These are not the only duties to be performed
  • Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required
  • Expected to support and participate in all camp programs as time allows
