Instructors – Island Camp (Overnight)
Overnight Instructor: 4 positions available
(2 Male Staff, 2 Female Staff)
The Overnight Instructor will be responsible for recreation time supervision and evening and overnight supervision of campers. Overnight instructors are also responsible for escorting campers Monday and Friday on the ferry trip to and from camp. All meals are provided while you are working, along with a private room with a shared bathroom. Please note that Overnight Instructor staff rooms are adjacent to camper dorms as you are on call to provide camper support overnight. Overnight staff must be able to wake up to campers knocking on their door and should be accustomed to supporting campers in an overnight setting.
This position requires the individual to be available to work at the following times:
Mondays 7:30am – 11:00am 3:00pm – Tues at 9:00am (Overnight)
Tuesdays 3:00pm – Wed at 9:00am (Overnight)
Wednesdays 3:00pm – Thurs at 9:00am (Overnight)
Thursdays 3:00pm – Fri at 9:00am (Overnight)
Fridays 11:30am – 2:30pm
Summary of Duties:
– Escort campers on the Monday and Friday ferry trip
– Plan, facilitate and supervise programs during camp recreation time
– Responsible for supervision of campers while they are in the dorms and common room
– Assist program directors with evening programs twice a week
– Overnight camper supervision: managing night-time routines, bedtime & morning wake-up.
Instructors are on-call throughout the night, and need to be able to support campers when the need arises during sleeping hours. Must be used to late nights.
– Support the supervision of meals, ensuring campers are following rules and procedures of the dining hall
– Model appropriate behaviour for campers to foster a healthy respect for the community and camp spaces
– Ensure well-being and appropriate behaviour of campers
– Follow safety routines and protocols of the TDSB and the Summer Camp
– Attend and participate in a paid orientation day (mandatory)
– Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
– Related experience working with children ages 9-12, preferably in an overnight setting
– Enthusiastic and proven ability to work as a team player
– Responsible with a positive and service-oriented attitude
– Current First Aid & CPR certification
– Successful candidates will be required to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check
