Job Goal / Summary: 

As a  Cedar Ridge Staff member, your primary concern is the physical and mental health and wellbeing of campers. Specifically, the Horseback Riding Instructor is responsible for safely teaching beginner to intermediate horseback riding and animal care skills during daily program sessions, as well as taking care of the horses and the upkeep of the barn area. The Horseback Riding Instructor will be responsible for working with staff and LIT’s (Leaders in Training) to ensure the safety of all participants, and the quality of all horse programs. This includes regular instruction, special “open program” sessions, trail rides, horse grooming, inventory, and maintenance.

Cedar Ridge Camp is located on Wanamaker Lake in the Madawaska Highlands region of Ontario. Preferred Qualifications and Certificates:  

  • Standard or Emergency First aid
  • Bronze Cross
  • Knowledge and experience with horseback riding, riding instruction, and animal care


  • Participate in mandatory training during pre-camp (June 26-30)
  • Daily horseback riding instruction
  • Meeting the needs, and maintaining the overall health, of the horses
  • Make sure barn and stalls are kept clean
  • Creative program design
  • Equipment care and maintenance
  • Uphold health and safety standards
  • Taking on the responsibilities of a Cedar Ridge Staff Member

  •  Able to lead horses, help participants mount and dismount, shovel/rake in barn area
  •  Able to be active for long periods of time
