High Ropes/ Climbing Head Instructor + Instructors

The Taylor Statten Camps are Canada’s oldest fourth generational family-run traditional summer camp. We are located on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park. The camp is made up of Camp Wapomeo for Girls and Camp Ahmek for Boys. Both Ahmek and Wapomeo campers use our extensive High Ropes course and The Climbing Wall located at Ahmek.  Our camper’s age varies from 6 – 16.

Head of High Ropes

Camp: Ahmek

We are currently seeking one (1) Head of High Ropes/Climbing Wall.

Job description:

  • Facilitate the day to day running of the High Ropes and Climbing Walls 
  • Guide 2 other Ropes staff and the Camp Counsellors to get the campers through the various elements
  • Motivate and coach the young campers as they develop the skills to succeed on the course
  • Manage all aspects of the course including all technical, program planning, safety management and rescue aspects of the activity.
  • The high ropes course is used by both Ahmek and Wapomeo campers, although the site for this program is at Ahmek and the Head of High Ropes lives at Ahmek as well.
  • Challenges Unlimited, an outside 3rd party provides 2 days of training on our courses on site for the staff before the campers arrive

Qualifications/Job Requirements:

  • Emergency First Aid or Equivalent and CPR “B”
  • Participated in a professional instructors training course for challenge ropes course adventure programming, or have equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Challenge Course Practitioner Level II or equivalent training and certification is an asset.

Compensation varies depending on age and experience.  All positions include room, board, laundry and use of facilities.

High Ropes Instructor (2)

Camp: Ahmek

We are currently seeking two (2) High Ropes Instructors.

Job description:

  • Under the direction of the Head of High Ropes, instruct campers on the use of the High Ropes Course elements and Climbing Walls 
  • Guide the Camp Counsellors and Campers to get through the various elements. Usually belaying is done by the Instructor
  • Motivate and coach the young campers as they develop the skills to succeed on the course
  • As directed by the Head of High Ropes manage different aspects of the course including some technical, program planning, safety management and rescue aspects of the activity.
  • The high ropes course is used by both Ahmek and Wapomeo campers, although the site for this program is at Ahmek and the Staff live at Ahmek as well.
  • Challenges Unlimited, an outside 3rd party provides 2 days of training on our courses on site for the staff before the campers arrive
