Head of Canoeing
Contract dates: June 24th– August 30th, 2021
Location: Camp Kandalore – Algonquin Highlands, Ontario
ORCKA Camp Canoe Instructors or Basic Instructors (or willingness to obtain)
Bronze Cross (NLS preferable, assistance to attain available)
Experience in a facilitator role
Excellent group management skills
NOTE: If the candidate does not currently have an ORCKA Camp Canoe Instructors or Basic Instructors certification, Kandalore will help to find training and will offer a compensation program for the certification.
Lead six canoeing activity periods per day for groups of up to fifty campers at a time.
Manage and support a team of up to twelve canoe instructors.
Ensure ORCKA levels are taught, practiced and earned among all camper age groups.
Teach, examine and prepare classes for each age group.
Continually seek ways to improve the canoeing program by facilitating engaging programs with a focus on skill development.
Ensure that all the equipment for canoe program is maintained.
Have an active presence in all aspects of camp life.
Participate in camp-wide events and actively create an inclusive environment for staff and campers.
All employees are required to participate in a minimum week-long staff training program as well as a site-specific training weekend in early June. Permission from the Camp Director is required to miss any part of the staff training.
