Gardening Assistant

Are you looking to spend the summer outside? Camp Winston summer team opportunities give young professionals valuable skill-building experience, practical training and a network of colleagues and friends that cannot be easily captured in traditional placement opportunities. Our amazing frontline team is focused on fun, active and meaningful support of children and teens with complex neurobiology. You will join a group of 70 staff as we embark on a bright and diverse adventure to help 140 children. We are dedicated to the growth and maturity of our staff and are committed to the mental health and well-being of all who join Camp Winston.  

 

Job Description: 

This is a seasonal job starting in May until the end of August. We are looking for a passionate gardener, who enjoy being physically active and has an understanding of how to work in a team environment. You will report to the Head of Site for direction of daily duties which will include planting, weeding, watering and supporting our animal care program on-site. You will be an important part of delivering a wonderful camp experience to all campers and staff. This job will be 5 days of the week including weekend shifts working approximately 35 hours per week.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Daily planting, weeding, watering 
  • Daily Large Animal care 4-5 animals (feed, walk, water replenishment)
  • Assisting with gardens and small animal care (feeding,water,cleaning cages)
  • Other duties as assigned by Head of Site

 

Camp Winston reserves the right to re-assign the duties of an employee at any time to ensure the safety of our campers, teens and staff. Job may include “other duties as assigned.”

  • Orientation of the organization
  • Hands on training as needed

 

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • You enjoy being outdoors, like to laugh and understand fun and silliness are fundamentals of a Summer Camp
  • Willingness to abide with Public Health recommendations and standards
  • Proof of current vaccinations, including COVID-19 
  • Satisfactory police record and vulnerable sector check
  • Strong communication skills
  • Collaborative relationship-builder

 

Location, Hours, Work Environment & Compensation:

  • Camp Winston (1147 Riverlane Pvt. Kilworthy, ON) 
  • Summer Contract Salary- $15.50 -$ 17 per hour 
  • Full time starting May – August 31st 2023
  • Staff Lounge, Wifi and Computer Access, Staff Parties and Activities to celebrate the team
