Day Camp Leader

Position: Day Camp Leader (DCL)                       Designation: Unit Leader
Type of Position: Summer Contract, Full-Time
Salary: $4950 – $5400 (9 week contract)

Day Camp Leaders are part of the UNIT LEADER team at Canterbury Hills. Unit Leaders work in staff teams of 2-3 to provide direct supervision to an assigned “unit” (group) of campers. Each Unit Leader works with their unit for the entirety of a weeklong session. Unit Leaders enjoy days filled with activity facilitation, camper interaction, and outdoor adventure.  Unit Leaders are supervised in their work by members of the senior staff team, called the Resource Team.

Among Unit Leaders, Day Camp Leaders work to provide care, supervision, and a memorable experience to campers in our Day Camp program for campers aged 6-10.

  • Daily arrival onsite at approximately 8:00am 
  • Supervision of assigned camper group (10-14 campers) aged 6 to 10 years old, working alongside other DCLs in assigned “staff team” 
  • Planning and facilitating daily group activities 
  • Supporting group dynamics, encouraging positive interactions, and addressing any concerns
  • Daily departure at approximately 6:00pm, Monday – Wednesday 
  • Thursday evening extended day with day campers and day camp staff staying for dinner, evening program, and campfire 
  • Friday departure after end of week clean-up and debrief 
  • Lunch and snacks provided every day

  • May Staff Training Weekend: May 17th – 20th
  • Staff Training Week: June 26th – June 30th
  • Summer Sessions: Weekly Monday morning – Friday evening, 8 weeks of sessions
    • Week 1: July 2 – 5 (short week, Tues – Fri)
    • Week 2: July 8 – 12
    • Week 3: July 15 – 19
    • Week 4: July 22 – 26
    • Week 5: July 29 – August 2
    • Week 6: August 6 – 9 (short week, Tues – Fri)
    • Week 7: August 12 – 16
    • Week 8: August 19 – 23
  • Staff clean-up, debrief, and celebration: Saturday August 24th
  • Optional Contract Extension: August 26th – 30th
