Position: Camp Cook
Hiring for the upcoming season: 2 position
Pre-Camp Season:
-
- Prepare the kitchen area for season
- Complete an inventory of all kitchen supplies and equipment
- Prepare a list of material required for the summer
- Review the menu for each camp session suitable for the age and dietary needs of the campers
- Become familiar with kitchen equipment and location of supplies
- Read and become familiar with ‘Cooking 101’ manual
- Attend and participate in pre-camp activities (tag day, set up weekend, orientation)
During Camp Season:
-
- Responsible for safety in the kitchen and eating area
- Required to adhere to OCA standards and Food Handler policies (must wear closed toe shoes, hat or head covering, and apron while cooking in the kitchen)
- Inspect kitchen and dining and surrounding area daily
- Maintaining kitchen hygiene
- Maintain order in the food storage supply room and water treatment system
- Submit daily report to the Camp Director
- Encourage all campers to participate in planned activities
- Prepare the pre-planned menu
- Evaluate and supervise campers on clean up
- Serving moderate quantity of food (seconds available) coordinate dining hall and assist
- Food preparation and serving,
- Keep daily log of all foods served, quantities, number of people served and waste to evaluate quantities prepared match what is required
- Dispose of all waste, garbage and recycling in main cabin
- Support duties of Director (as assigned by Director)
End of Season:

- Submit end of season written report on kitchen activities
- Submit end of season inventory of kitchen supplies and equipment
- Make recommendations for future year menus
- Attend and participate in end of season activities (clean up week – final week of summer)
Daily:
-
- Coordinate and participate in daily schedule of activities and chores
- Assume responsibility for the safety of campers and report all injuries to the Camp Director
- Participate in nightly campfire program
- Know where campers are at all times during meals and clean up
- Ensure main cabin, deck and dining hall are clean and tidy
- Supervise the refilling of condiment supplies after each meal
- Ensure food is prepared to meet daily programming schedule
- Food preparation must begin in an appropriate amount of time before the meal is scheduled to be served
- Report to the Director any counsellors who are absent or inactive during chores and mealtime
- Work to ensure all campers are included, safe and comfortable
- Attend counsellor and staff meeting nightly
- Bring forth concerns to Camp Directors
- Participate in all other camp activities
