Summer 2021 – COMMUNITY SUMMER STAFF
Community and Day Camp Program Staff
(Contract is mid-June to early September)
While 2020 was full of unexpected challenges, our new organization moved forward, inspired by our vision of reaching every child and family affected by childhood cancer across Ontario. We are developing plans to deliver modified in-person day camp and community programs this summer throughout Ontario, leveraging pandemic protocols including social distancing, use of PPE, and plenty of time outdoors. We’re getting ready for a life-changing summer of adventure, fun, and safety!

In order to be a successful part of our outstanding summer staff team, you’ll be passionate about facilitating amazing recreational experiences for kids and families while actively supporting and providing resources to our volunteers throughout the summer.
The Community and Day Camp Program Staff will work closely with the year-round program team to support all community programs, including camper and family programs, day camps and virtual camp programs. Community programs take place at various sites across Ontario, including but not limited to areas in or around Toronto, Hamilton, London, and Ottawa.
This position will plan and lead day camp programs as well as possible overnight programs for families throughout Ontario. This position will include the development and instruction of programs for groups of children and families that are safe, creative, challenging, accessible, experiential, as well as ability and age appropriate, environmentally friendly and fun.
The position will be responsible for camper behavioural support, monitoring program activities for safety, purchasing and inventory, and supporting the risk management of all activity areas at day camp and community programs; as well as implementing all Camp policies and procedures when programming.
The Community Programs Summer Staff must have:
• Experience as a staff or volunteer in a camp environment and/or working with children in a recreational setting
• Experience working with children with complex needs and considerations
• Experience working with volunteers
• Experience facilitating group programs
• Experience adapting programming
• Current G class driver’s license, and eligible to be insured under Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium Insurance Policy
• Current police reference check and vulnerable sector screening
Advantageous criteria for the Community Programs Summer Staff include: an understanding of the power of camp, a demonstrated ability to work with families, and an understanding of how illness impacts the entire family, and NLS or Bronze Cross certification.
This position requires significant overnight travel and time away from home to facilitate province-wide day camps and community programs. Costs associated with travel required for this position will be covered, in addition to your salary. This includes accommodations, transportation and food. This position also requires working outside for long periods of time, and significant evening and weekend commitments throughout the duration of the contract (mid-June – early Sept). In consideration of the population Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium serve, the incumbent is a non-smoker.
