Canoe Trip Leader
Description
Share your love of the outdoors leading canoe trips with us! Mi-A-Kon-Da is looking to hire a Canoe Trip Leader for the summer to lead 2 to 6 day canoe trips with small groups of campers and their counsellor. Canoe Trip Leaders are responsible to the Head of Tripping, Assistant Directors and Director. While on trip, their responsibilities include route planning, meal planning and prep, navigation, and safety. Canoe Trip Leaders work closely with Camp Staff while on trip to educate campers on basic camping skills, promote independence, self-reliance, and respect for each other and the environment. Additional work dates available based on experience and candidate availability.
Dates: June 23 – August 26, 2023
Compensation:
- Salary based on experience (Minimum $475/week)
- 4% vacation pay
- Room & Board included
Job Duties
- Route planning for canoe trips based on campers age and skill
- Prepare menus for trips based on campers food needs
- Lead canoe trips
- Responsible for all food and equipment for each trip
- Maintain equipment in good working order
- Follow our no trace camping philosophy
- Other duties when in-camp, as needed
Minimum Requirements
- 19+ years old
- Bronze Cross certification
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Canoeing, tripping and camping experience
- Experience working with children
- Good organizational skills
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Flexible, reliable and responsible
Nice to Have
- Boating License and experience driving boats
- NLS certification and Lifeguarding experience
- Wilderness First Aid Training
About Mi-A-Kon-Da
Founded in 1955, Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da is a traditional summer camp for girls ages 7-16. The camp is situated on Birch Island, a 23-acre private island on Lake Wah Wash Kesh near Parry Sound, Ontario.
