Camp Nurses and Student Nurses
Nurse RN, Nurse RPN, Student Nurse
Camp Pathfinder, Algonquin Park
Pathfinder is seeking nursing staff for the 109th camp season.
Choosing to work at Camp Pathfinder means that you’ve chosen more than a summer job. You’ve signed up for an experience where you can have a powerful impact on the lives of children, and you can spend the summer in Algonquin Park, at an historic summer camp with a sterling reputation.
You’ll become part of a camping community with over a century of history.
Camp Pathfinder, est. 1914, is a renowned boys summer camp with a tradition almost as old as Algonquin Park itself. The Pathfinder Nurses play a crucial role in stewarding our history and our camp’s ongoing success.
The RN or RPN is a full-time residential role of 2 weeks or 3 1/2 weeks duration and works with medical directors and a partner nurse to steward the health program.
The student nurse is a full-time residential role as well, and frequently also serves as a lifeguard and swim instructor in the camp’s aquatics program.
In these roles, you will provide care to children and staff, a medical “home away from home.” You will work closely with the camp director and senior staff, camp health staff and medical directors, to prevent and respond to illness and injury, promote good health and hygiene, teach lifelong safety, health and life skills, and enhance the well-being of the Pathfinder community.
Here’s what you’ll get to do:
Integrate nursing and health knowledge with a camp tradition of outdoor health and wellbeing.
Provide care to a wonderful small community of 100 campers and 70 staff
Assume a leadership role to influence healthy behaviors in the camp setting.
Work with the Camp Director, Medical Directors (emergency physician and pediatrician), RNs, first responders and senior camp staff.
Teach activities in-camp and join day trips throughout the Park interior.
Paddle, swim, hike, stargaze and play in Algonquin Park every day.
Become part of a great community and camp family spanning the world.
Participate in wilderness medicine and first response education for camp staff.
Attend the Ontario Camps Association virtual camp health workshop.
Assist: administer daily meds, prepare medical kits for out-trips, handle injuries and illness, review and manage camper / staff health records, communicate with camp staff and parents.
Live in full-time residence on beautiful Pathfinder Island, in the heart of Algonquin.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Be a registered nurse or practical nurse, or an enrolled student in a recognized nursing program.
If aquatics staff, a Bronze Cross, NLS, WSI or higher certification in aquatics/lifesaving
An appetite for adventure, a love of the outdoors, and a passion for caring for young people.
An ability to act collaboratively, mixed with the skills and capacity to act as the only health provider and clinician on Pathfinder Island.
Innovation, critical thinking, excellent communication and problem solving.
Strong clinical nursing skills.
