Camp Henry Director
Position: Camp Director, YMCA Camp Henry
Location: YMCA Camp Henry (June-October) and Wortley YMCA, London (November – May)
Start Date: March 2023
Compensation:$42,000-$46,500 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
YMCA Camp Henry is a seasonal summer camp and outdoor center located in Point Pelee National Park near Leamington, Ontario. Since 2017, Camp Henry has offered a variety of programs for children and youth ages 5-16 during the summer, including four and five night overnight camps, day camps, and family camp programs. Point Pelee National Park has many beautiful attractions that inspire children and youth. Our camp offers water- based activities like swimming, kayaking and canoeing and our land-based activities include archery, biking, crafts, games, exploring nature and day trips. All of our activities are designed to support the development of spirit, mind and body for all of our campers. YMCA Camp Henry also operates during the spring and fall seasons as an Outdoor Center, offering a variety of programs for schools, youth, families and private groups. Annually, Camp Henry hosts approximately 300 participants throughout the summer camp programs.
The Camp Henry Director position is a seasonal position responsible for managing all aspects of the programs, staff, and facilities. They are responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality programs and operations and providing support and training to the staff teams.

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate human resources, including recruitment, supervision, training, coaching and mentoring staff
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality participant experiences that promote and reflect the YMCA core values and mission statement and YMCA Camping Quality Recommended Practices
- Responsible for implementation and management of operational budgets
- Coordinate facility operations and schedules with Parks Canada for all buildings and ensure compliance to all relevant provincial regulations/standards
- Onsite leadership and supervision of all operations during operating seasons
- Ongoing risk management and crisis response following YMCA procedures
- Oversee all camp administration including registration management and communication with families and clients
- Plan strategically for the continued growth and development of all Camp Henry programs
- Maintain strong internal and external relationships valuable to the ongoing success of camp
Other Job Details:
The successful candidate is required to live on site at YMCA Camp Henry during the operating season (approximately mid/late June-October) in rustic accommodations. During our shoulder seasons (May-June and September-October), time would be balanced between living on site (when groups are present) or when there are no groups on site, they would work remotely or out of our main Association office located in London. From October to late April, this position is based in London at our main Association office with the potential to work remotely some of the time.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Previous experience managing and supervising staff in a camp or outdoor education environment (minimum 2 years)
- Experience working with children, youth, and adults in a camp or outdoor education environment
- Exceptional communication skills, relationship-building skills, and organizational skills
- Current clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening as per current YMCA human resource policy
- Valid CPR C and Standard First Aid
- G Class Drivers License
- Safe Food Handling certificate
- NLS (preferred)
