Camp Youth Development Leaders (Counsellors)

Responsible to the Head Counsellor

Duties

  • To do what needs to be done
  • Is responsible for the day to day operation fo the camper unit under the supervision of the Head Youth Development Leader and Camp Director
  • Ensures the health, safety and security of the camper
  • Must know the whereabouts of each child in the unit while in the counsellor’s care
  • Ensures that tent line programs are of high quality, creative and safe for campers
  • Ensures that their campers understand and participate int he routines and programs
  • Counsellors in Jr. units with the support of their resource buddies will lead trips to onsite camp out locations
  • Is available to listen and understands when a child wants or needs to talk with them
  • Ensures, through supervision and assistance, that basic hygiene and cleanliness is maintained
  • Understands that their campers will imitate them. Therefore, counsellor’s need to be able to demonstrate respect for the rules and policies of the camp, and to behave within the limits set by the Director
  • Participates in evening programs, special days, other special programs and will be encouraged to take a leadership role in the planning and implementation
  • Must be 17 in the calendar year
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Camp Director
