CNIB Lake Joe is a fully accessible lakefront facility located in Muskoka providing a unique blend of recreation, skills training, social interaction and personal discovery in a safe, inclusive environment. Two hours north of Toronto, Lake Joe stretches over 12.5 acres of waterfront property on the northwest corner of beautiful Lake Joseph. Staff and volunteers provide a wide range of high-quality programs to people of all ages who are living with sight loss.
The Camp Counsellor-Boat Driver is responsible for ensuring safe, inclusive and fun experiences for all guests. They also take on a leadership role in the facilitation of off-site activities, including all boat cruises.
- Energetically and inclusively facilitate boating programs (i.e., tubing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, pontoon cruises, etc.) for all program participants
- Take on other areas of responsibility as needs arise (i.e., waterfront programs)
- Demonstrate safe and responsible driving habits when in control of CNIB vessels and vehicles and comply with all waterway safety laws
- Complete vessel safety inspections before driving any of the boats
- Maintain and clean all program equipment prior to and after use report any issues to Program Area Head
- Provide assistance during emergency procedures
- Other duties as assigned
- Strong interpersonal skills, including patience and communication
- Experience in camp or other recreation programs an asset
- Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- PCO (Pleasure Craft Operator) card
- Extensive power boating (e.g., maneuvering, docking and navigation) experience necessary
- Experience with driving safe operation of waterski/wakeboard boat an asset
- Ability to work flexible hours in a changing and busy environment
