Northwaters and Langskib basecamps are located on two separate islands about 12 miles apart as the crow flies. Every summer we require a full time cook for each base camp. Traditionally, cooks stay with us for a number of summers. They are comfortable (and have had experience) living in a communal, summer camp environment, enjoy nature and the outdoors.
Cooks prepare 3 homemade, nutritionally balanced meals a day for varying numbers in camp. Depending on our schedule, numbers can range from cooking for 10 to 250. Cooks work together with a Program Director to meal plan, place weekly orders for appropriate amounts of food and coordinate food and supply deliveries while working within a budget. Responsibilities also include overseeing the work of others (kitchen assistants), and maintaining a clean, experiential and safe work environment.
Ideally cooks should have previous camp and managerial experience, be hard working and have a strong understanding of nutrition. Other assets include prepping and cooking experience (preferably for large numbers), knowledge of specialty diet menus (i.e. vegetarian, vegan, wheat allergies, etc.), experience in menu planning, inventory management, scheduling, 3 months prior experience cooking for camps, schools or other large groups and strong organizational and people skills.
Room, board and competitive salary based on experience. Accommodations are rustic, but private. Contract from June 20– August 20, 2022.
